You don’t need perfect words to begin a Scripture reflection journal. You need a Bible, a little time, and a willingness to respond honestly.
Some days, your page may hold a thoughtful prayer. Other days, it may contain one question: “Lord, what should I do next?” Begin where you are.
1. Read a short Bible passage
Choose a manageable passage and read it slowly. Notice who is speaking, what is happening, and what the surrounding verses help you understand.
For your first reflection, try Luke 19:1–10—the story of Jesus meeting Zacchaeus.
2. Notice what holds your attention
Pause over a word, action, or question that stands out.
In the story of Zacchaeus, you might notice that Jesus stops and calls him by name. What does this encounter reveal about Jesus? How does Zacchaeus respond?
Keep your observations connected to the passage.
3. Write an honest response
You don’t have to write an essay. Start with three simple prompts:
- What does this passage help me understand?
- What question or feeling does it bring to the surface?
- What practical response could I make today?
Leave room for questions you cannot answer yet.
4. Close with a short prayer
Speak to God in your own words. You can express gratitude, ask for wisdom, or bring Him something difficult.
Then choose one small action: encourage someone, make time to listen, or offer an apology.
Make room for another quiet moment
Return at a pace you can sustain. Your journal is a place to read, pause, reflect, and respond.
